How do we age the way we do?

Drawing on Science and Technology Studies, age studies and feminist posthumanism, this book challenges the idea that ageing is merely a biological fact and problematizes dominant socio-technical imaginaries of ageing. It explores how ageing is socially, materially and technologically accomplished through technoscientific practices, processes, and interventions.

Examining the pervasive influence of ageism and the overarching imperative to “age well,” the book identifies and analyses five modes through which ageing is imagined and governed: classification, quantification, biocommodification, cyborgization and virtualization. Together, these modes reveal how ageing bodies and their futures are transformed in contemporary Western societies.
