Wild Yeast Economies

Wild Yeast Economies uses the culinary metaphor of fermentation to explore the nuts and bolts of social change. It asks whether there can be recipes for organizing on a neighbourhood level in ways that respond to widespread societal challenges such as democratic erosion.

The book takes the reader on a fictionalized trip through two organizational experiments in England and Spain. The search for a recipe highlights issues of control vs. spontaneity and the role art thinking can play in both the learning and the doing of activism. Transdisciplinary in nature, the book shows how action on the neighbourhood level can connect conversations from disciplines as diverse as geography, management, social movement studies and art theory.
